Lydia is in 4th grade at Westby elementary school. Lydia struggles on a daily basis with Selective Mutism, which is a social anxitey disorder. Lydia hates leaving the house, and will not talk to anyone that she is not comfortable with, and even struggles talking to her sister most days. Last year at school, she didn't say one word the entire school year. Selective Mutism is not well known, but many people have it but don't realize it. I want everyone to know about selective mutism, as well as to raise money to educate the Westby Area School District about selective mutism (so they know more about it and can understand Lydia and other children whom struggle with social anxiety as well), and to be able to send Lydia to New York to the Child Mind Institute. The Child Mind Institute helps many people with mental illnesses, and will hopefully help Lydia, so she can be able to live a somewhat normal life, and finally be able to use her voice for the world to hear.
